Stargazing Live: Be part of a World Record Attempt

Girl Guides can take part of a world record attempt in stargazing on in May 2018!

As part of the ABC’s broadcast of Stargazing Live with Brian Cox this May, the ABC is coordinating a massive nationwide event to inspire the next generation of scientists and astronomers. On the 23rd May 2018, Guides can take part in a world record attempt for the most people stargazing at the same time across multiple locations.

To take part, all you need is an open space where you can see the sky and a group of Guides who love outer space and would like to be world record holders! You need a minimum of 25 people to be a registered venue and take part in the world record attempt. The event organisers will provide groups with all of the materials required, and ‘how to’ guidelines. Stargazers can either use a telescope or binoculars to look at all the stars. If a group does not have any equipment, the ABC can set up an Eventbrite link to purchase low-cost telescopes for $6.50, and ship the telescopes to the group at the ABC’s cost.

Are you feeling starry-eyed? Register your Guide Unit’s stargazing location and details here and the ABC will get in touch with you.
