Free meningococcal vaccine for 15 and 16-year-olds

Until 31 December 2018, the meningococcal vaccine is free for Year 10 students (and to all other teens in Victoria aged 15 or 16 years old).

Parents will need to complete and return the immunisation consent card that their child will bring home from school, if they choose for their child to receive the vaccine.

What is meningococcal disease?

Meningococcal disease is an uncommon but deadly disease. It can kill very quickly, and survivors often lose fingers, toes or limbs.

15 and 16-year-olds are the most frequent carriers of meningococcal disease, and the disease is on the rise in Victoria. Late winter and early spring are the peak seasons for the disease.

We are sharing this information because it will be of interest to some of our youth members and their parents.
