Volunteering at a State Camp is a fantastic opportunity for new and experienced Leaders. Each camp offers different opportunities for volunteers. Submit your Expression of Interest!

Jamborella

Jamborella is fabulous indoor camp for Guides aged 5 – 9.

What’s it like being a Sub Camp Leader at Jamborella?

  • Spend the long weekend having fun with Guides from all over the State.
  • It’s a great experience for Leaders who have never attended an indoor or outdoor camp before.
  • The major planning is all done by the Central Committee, so you won’t need to think about paperwork, program planning, or menus.

What’s it like being a Central Committee Member at Jamborella?

  • The Central Committee makes all the planning decisions: program, activities, logistics, equipment, menu, and badges.
  • Spend 2 – 4 hours per week helping to organise the camp, and attend the camp itself.
  • You will be allocated tasks such as admin/paperwork, researching prices or ideas, making calls and/or sending emails.
  • Attend meetings with other Central Committee Members and the State Program Managers. Except for the “Working Bee”/packing day, these meetings can be via phone, Skype, or Zoom.

When: Friday 27 – Sunday 29 September, 2019 (AFL Grand Final long weekend)

Where: Jamborella will be held at two campsites – Britannia Park and Lingbogol

Available roles:

  • Sub Camp Leaders are needed to stay overnight with the girls in all four houses (three houses are at Britannia Park, one is at Lingbogol).
  • Britannia Park roles available: QM (food coordinator), Program, and General Assistants. Job share is possible for these roles.
  • Lingbogol roles available: Leader in Charge and First Aid.

Jamboree

Jamboree is an adventurous camp for Guides aged 10-13.

What’s it like being a Sub Camp Leader at Jamboree?

  • Sub Camp Leaders are needed to help with basic camping activities and ratios.
  • Jamboree is a fantastic way for Leaders to gain the skills they need to earn their camping qualification.
  • No previous experience is needed, making it a great opportunity to start gaining experience with outdoor camps.
  • In the lead up to the event, all Leaders are expected to attend at least one meeting and communicate via phone or email.

What’s it like being a Central Committee Member at Jamboree?

  • The Central Committee makes all the planning decisions: program, activities, logistics, equipment, menu, and badges.

Jambo

What’s it like being a Sub Camp Leader at Jambo?

Jambo is a small indoor camp for Guides aged 14-17.

  • Sub Camp Leaders are needed to help with ratios, hands-on activities, and some planning.
  • You can develop your experience with planning camps.
  • Because the girls are older, being a Jambo Sub Camp Leader is a chill role and a great way to gain experience volunteering with teens.
  • In the lead up to the event, all Leaders are expected to attend at least one meeting and communicate via phone or email.

When: Friday 27 September – Wednesday 2 October 2019 (part of this camp falls during the AFL Grand Final long weekend)

Where: Jambo will be based in Lara (near Geelong), but the Guides will visit different locations during the camp, including travelling to Melbourne

Available roles:

  • General Assistants. Job share is possible for this role.
  • Transport and Logistics Assistant (liaises with the Program Assistant to decide how/when to get to each location. Seeks quotes and books transport as required.)
