Promoting Guides

Explore our resources and tips on how to promote Guiding in your community!

For support with anything to do with promoting Guides, contact our Communications Officer on 8606 3500 or via email.

Running a PR Stall

A PR stall can be a great way to help connect Guiding to the wider community. It can also help girls, parents/guardians, and potential volunteers to get a sense for what Guiding is all about.

The Communications Officer can give you practical advice on how to get the most out of a Guiding PR stall.

We highly recommend that you include a nice display of our new PR resources (see below).

PR Resources

Girl Guides Victoria has fantastic new PR resources that were created by a professional graphic designer.

Wherever possible, we offer a version for professional printing and a version for home printing.

Girl Guides Victoria also has a Vistaprint account where District and Region Managers can purchase professionally printed resources online, on behalf of their District/Region.

Social Media

Running a Guiding social media account can be a great way to grow Guiding in your area.

Whether you’re just starting out or have been managing a Guiding social media account for a while, the Communications Officer can offer expert advice on building a following, posting Child Safe content, and more.

Bring a Friend Party

Holding a ‘Bring a Friend’ party can be a fun way for your Guides to share Guiding with their friends.

Read the Bring a Friend Party resource to see some fun ideas for activities and resources (including a sign-in sheet for new girls and coupons for 3 free Guide sessions that you could give out to interested parents/guardians.)

Community Events

Is your Unit participating in a community event this year? We can help you with PR resources, social media promotion, local media coverage, and more!

Media Coverage

Local newspapers love sharing stories about their community. With the right story, your Unit has a great chance of getting coverage in your local newspaper.

Read some popular local news stories about Guides.

Newspaper advertisements

Some Districts choose to pay for advertisements in their local newspaper. If you would like to explore this option, contact GGV.

We’ll help you to strengthen your goals for the advertisement, help you with the wording and photos, and are happy to design the advertisement for you.

The advertisement’s size requirements/dimensions will need to be provided by the newspaper. We will also provide high resolution versions of any photos included in the advertisement, for the newspaper to use as needed.

Here is an advertisement that we created for a local newspaper in Euroa:.

Using the GGV Voice

The words we use are important, especially when we’re talking about girls.

Whether you’re posting on social media, being interviewed by a journalist, or chatting to an interested parent/guardian, there will be lots of opportunities for you to use the Guiding voice to talk about girls.

To quickly get a sense for what this voice can sound like, and why it’s important, read our brief resource: ‘Using the GGV Voice‘.
