Earlier this year Girl Guides Victoria was the recipient of a generous gift, the Baw Baw Lodge, from the Lonsdale Ski Club (LSC).
On Saturday 26th October, Girl Guides Victoria hosted a Thank You BBQ at Springvale Guide Hall, celebrating the Lonsdale Ski Club’s donation. LSC members enjoyed a reunion and had the opportunity to reminisce about their times together over the past 55 years.
The lodge enjoys a long history in the Guiding community. Conceptualising the ski lodge as a dream project in the 1950s, the 1st Dandenong Scout Group and their families pitched in to raise funds and construct their dream site on Mt Baw Baw. After a much-anticipated wait, the lodge was completed in the 1960s.
More recently, the lodge became a legacy building. The LSC Committee wanted the space to remain a place where young people could have adventures in the great outdoors and decided to donate the lodge to a like-minded organisation – Girl Guides Victoria.
The lodge is a wonderful asset for all of our members and will allow Guides to experience the beautiful environment at Mt Baw Baw.
Guide Units and camps will take to the slopes for skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, and mountain biking. The nature at Mt Baw Baw makes it possible for Guides to go on guided flora walks, alpine frog scavenger hunts, and educational dingo encounters.
GGV plans to host regular activities, camps, and workshops at the site so that all members, including Leaders and volunteers, will benefit from this generous donation.
