WAGGGS’s Helen Storrow Seminar is a high-profile event that has been offering leadership development opportunities for young women since 1986.
The seminar is held at Our Chalet, WAGGGS’s World Centre in Switzerland. The seminar will focus on the environmental issues of today and explore ways to raise awareness and use practical skills to create change.
Learning outcomes:
- To give participants the opportunity to explore ways they can grow and develop practical leadership skills, which they can directly apply in their Member Organisations or community.
- Explore leadership practice and develop the mindsets of a change maker.
- To offer participants the opportunity to learn about current environmental issues.
- To incorporate the unique natural environment of the Swiss Alps into the learning process.
- To give participants the chance to share best practices and to network for the success of future projects.
- Design and carry out a project to protect the environment your community.
The Helen Storrow Seminar is more than just a week in the Swiss Alps. It’s a chance to make a real difference to an environmental issue that affects your community, and to go on a journey with other young people to form a network of global change agents.

Who: Helen Storrow Seminar participants should be:
- Active members of a WAGGGS Member Organization
- Eager to build leadership skills and support their Association
- 18-25 years old at the start of the event
- Passionate about environmental issues
- Committed to designing and running an environmental project in the wider community after the seminar in co-operation with the National Outdoor Activities Committee
- Mature and responsible global citizens
- Able to access the internet
- Not have participated in a WAGGGS seminar before
This is a Nationally selected event. Selected delegates will receive financial support to cover part of the cost of attending the event from the GGA Special Purpose Funds (including Irene Fairbairn Fund). Allocations up to $1,500 have been made from these Funds for this event in the past.
The project that you will design and carry out is the heart of this experience, and we will be selecting applicants both on how they fit the participant criteria, and on the strength of their project ideas.
You will have support before, during, and after the seminar to turn your ideas into a real project, and we are looking for participants who are really motivated and inspired to make a change.
