Frequently Asked Questions: General

Why has the date changed?

Due to uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 situation in Victoria, the volunteer committee made the challenging decision to postpone Camp Together to the end of the summer holidays. This decision was made so that the camp could have more of an opportunity to go ahead!

Registrations are still open for this new date, and existing participants have been emailed with the option to either maintain their registration or receive a full refund.

Can I come to Camp Together?

Probably! Camp Together is for all members of Girl Guides Victoria. This includes all youth members, Leaders, Managers, Unit and Parent Helpers, Olaves, Trefoil Guild members… anyone who wants to attend is welcome.

If you are not a member of Girl Guides Victoria:

Can I attend Camp Together for the day?

Adult members who wish to attend Camp Together for just the day and register by emailing stategathering@guidesvic.org.au. The cost for adult day visitors is $15 for food and activities, and an additional $10 if you would like a camp dilly bag!

At this stage, day visits are not possible for youth members.

Can I arrive late to or leave early from Camp Together?

Yes. To keep everything running smoothly, there will be specific times you will need to arrive/depart. Please email stategathering@guidesvic.org.au if you need to organise to arrive late to camp or leave early.

How do I register for camp?

Online! Click here to go to the registration page. Make sure you read all the instructions, and email any questions to stategathering@guidesvic.org.au.

How do we get to camp at Britannia Park?

By bus! Buses will pick up Girl Guides and Volunteers from local pick-up points on Friday morning, and will drop back to the same location on Monday morning. Region buses will be supervised by Girl Guide Leaders, and additional information about times and locations will be provided closer to the event. Please note that you may have to drive to your bus departure hub.

My daughter wants to attend Camp Together, but her Unit Leader isn't available.

That’s okay! There will be plenty of adults at Camp Together to help her have an awesome time. Your local Unit Leader does not need to attend Camp Together with you.

I'm a Leader who wants to attend Camp Together, but none of the girls in my Unit want to go!

That’s okay! We’d still love to have you. You can choose to be on a sub-camp with youth members from your Region, or the adult-only sub-camp.

Frequently Asked Questions: At Camp

There's no dilly bag/plate bag on the kit list. What will we be eating off at camp?

Everyone who attends Camp Together will get a special Girl Guides Victoria dilly bag to use at camp, and then take home to keep!

Can I be on a sub-camp with my friends?

Yes! We know that one of the best things about Girl Guide camp is sleeping in a tent with your friends. Sub-camps are based on age and Region – so if your Guiding bestie is in the same Unit and of similar age… you’ll be together!

The age groups are:

  • 5-7
  • 7-10
  • 10-13
  • 13-17

If you have any specific requests regarding which sub=camp you’re in, please email stategathering@guidesvic.org.au and we’ll be happy to help.

Will I be sleeping in a tent?

Probably! Youth members will be sleeping in communal tents with other Girl Guides from their Unit or local area. Make sure you bring a foam or self-inflating mat to sleep on. There will be no room in the tent for a stretcher or a lilo. Girl Guides aged 5-6 can select to sleep indoors when they register… until all the beds run out!

Adults can sleep in communal tents with other adults on their sub-camp, or bring their own tent or swag. Adults can sleep on a stretcher or a lilo if they wish. Please bring protection for the tent floor (e.g. foam or yoga mat) if you’re bringing a stretcher! There are also limited places available on the adult-only sub-camp to sleep in a campervan.

If you need to sleep indoors to accessibility reasons, please email stategathering@guidesvic.org.au and we’ll be happy to discuss the best option for you to be comfortable at camp.

What activities will we be doing at camp?

On Friday after everyone arrives, we’ll enjoy an afternoon of activities run by our Regions followed by an Opening Ceremony to get us all pumped up and ready for the rest of camp! Saturday will be a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ day where Girl Guides will get to select from an exciting array of activities such as canoeing, low ropes, theatre sports, STEM, and more! Sunday will bring us more Region activities in the morning and the State Award Ceremony in the afternoon.

What about Girl Guides aged 13+? Will they be doing the same activities as the younger Girl Guides?

Girl Guides aged 13-17 will be on their own sub-camp and will have their own activities on Friday and Sunday. This will include some linking activities with our Olaves (Girl Guides aged 18-29), and LOTS of opportunities to connect with their peers from across the state.

On Saturday, all Girl Guides will have the opportunity to ‘choose their own adventure’. There will be special activities for our Girl Guides aged 13+ such as a session on the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Leadership Mindsets, and caving!

What are the 'WAGGGS Leadership Mindsets?'

The WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guide and Girl Scouts) Leadership Model uses a system of six mindsets as the main tool to make leadership practice conscious and to influence our reactions, reflections, choices, and behaviours.

While more traditional leadership programs are based on skill and knowledge acquisition, this model focuses on developing values and positive behaviours. Although competences can be important, your values, perspectives and attitudes as a leader matter more.

Be the best leader you can be! Whatever your age, stage, position, or situation you can develop your leadership practice in everyday life. As founder of Scouts and Guides Lord Baden-Powell would say: “Look wider still.”

Will there be SWAPS at Camp Together? What are SWAPS?

‘Swaps’ are small craft items that can be pinned onto something like a hat or lanyard. You are also able to swap camp blanket badges! Some people say that ‘SWAPS’ stands for: special whatchamacallits affectionately pinned somewhere.

Camp Together is the perfect opportunity to bring badges or small craft items to swap with the new friends you’re going to make!

More information about SWAPS here.
