Girl Guides Victoria announces next State Commissioner

1 September 2022

Girl Guides Victoria is pleased to announce that Linda Kors will become our next State Commissioner, commencing 1 September 2022. Linda’s appointment was endorsed by the Girl Guides Victoria State Council on Monday 29 August.

“I love Girl Guides and I am proud to be a Girl Guide.  I am excited to serve as the next Victorian State Commissioner and have the opportunity to build on the incredible legacy of the women and State Teams who have grown and nurtured Girl Guides Victoria,” said Linda.

“My intent is to continue our Girl Guide journey, to be an organisation where everyone feels they have a voice, finds it fun and rewarding to belong and wants to constructively contribute.

“An organisation that builds confidence in girls and women and is a place for each of us to respectfully belong, united by our Promise and Law.  Leaders who develop and equip girls to be leaders in their world, through exposure to a broad range of activities, skills, and experiences modelling caring, empathy, and respect.

“I am honoured to have the trust of the organisation and am looking forward to helping Girl Guides survive and thrive with fun and purpose.”

Since first joining the Girl Guide movement as a 7-year-old Brownie in Australian Guides in Malaysia, Linda has stayed actively connected as a Guide, Junior Leader and Leader and serving as Region Manager in Barwon South West.

With professional skills spanning management and leadership, organisational change and facilitation and working across cultures, and qualifications in chemical engineering and psychology, Linda brings a diverse and well-rounded skill set to the role.

Linda also has a strong history of active community involvement, having served on Boards and as a volunteer Crisis Counsellor.

Linda brings a deep understanding of the journey ahead for Girl Guides Victoria and the State Team and is committed to developing and implementing our strategic plan and reigniting belonging and inspiring fun in Guiding.

Girl Guides Victoria Executive Committee Chair Michele Stokes, State Commissioner Janelle Howell, and Chief Executive Officer Amy Timoshanko said: “We congratulate Linda on her appointment and look forward to working with her during this transformational phase for Girl Guides Victoria. We are confident that we are in capable hands to help lead the organisation forward on this next important step to long-term sustainability.”

Girl Guides Victoria thanks State Commissioner Janelle Howell and her team for their commitment, vision and service to the organisation and looks forward to more formally celebrating their achievements in due course.
