Five minutes with … Dayla Allen

Every month, we like to get to know a member of our amazing Victorian Guiding community a little better. This month we caught up with Dayla Allen, our Victorian Olave Manager.

A Leader at Morwell Gemstones Guides, Dayla joined Guides in 2020. She co-started an Olave Group in Gippsland last year to create something for women her own age in the region.

Dayla was inspired to take on the Olave Manager role after seeing a Workplace post about Olaves having a say in conversations about the Program. Dayla is excited to be able to help build the Olave community and network, and to support and mentor other women and girls.

Aside from Girl Guides activities, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Outside of Girl Guides Activities I like to read, play video games, write and being creative. I also work as a photographer and swim instructor.

If you were to write a book, what would it be about?
If I were to write a book it would be about a fantasy world that has a strong female lead with an amazing support network of friends and family.

What would you like to happen in 2023?
Personally I want to write and publish a book this year, and to live more in the moment.

What would you take with you to a deserted island?
I would bring my partner, my camera and my favourite book series to a deserted island.

Where did you and your best friend meet?
I have a couple of best friends. One is my cousin and I’ve known her my whole life, others from high school, and University. These women are the ones that I can always rely on and couldn’t imagine my life without.
