What is the Duke of Ed?
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading non-formal educational program for young people aged 14-25. The Duke of Ed Award program offers Guides and Olaves the opportunity to gain recognition for many activities they may already be completing by participating in Girl Guiding activities, completing their Queen’s Guide/Olave Baden Powell Award or other badgework, as well as extra-curricular involvements outside of Guiding.
However, the Duke of Ed can provide the opportunity for young people to try new things and be rewarded for their efforts.
Unique to the Duke of Ed, this Award focuses on choosing a select few activities and aiming to substantially build your skills in these commitments over numerous months. Girl Guides will have the opportunity to set themselves a goal in a Skill, Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey section of The Award.
What will this information session cover?
- Introduce you to The Award Framework and the requirements of each Award section.
- Clarify the difference between each Award level.
- Provide insight into what activities you/your Guide can complete for each section, with a special focus on how you can cross credit your Queen’s Guide and other Guiding activities to meet Duke of Ed requirements.
- Show you how to register for the Duke of Ed
- Provide an opportunity for Q&A
