Despite the cloudy conditions, our new Paddle Team had a blast at their first training session recently, at the Guide & Scouts Water Activities Centre in Sandringham.
The Paddle Team, made up of Girl Guides Victoria Leaders and Adult members, are training in preparation of the fun water activities they’ll be rolling out for Victorian Guides from Term 4 this year.
Our adventurous members are working towards becoming fully trained in kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. As part of their training, they’re also learning how to lead Guides safely on the water, teach them water skills, and cultivate a lifelong love of the outdoors within the younger subsection of our Guiding community.
The growth and development doesn’t stop at the Guides they’ll be leading through the water, though. By being part of the Paddle Team, our members are enhancing their leadership skills, gaining valuable experience in outdoor education, and fostering strong teamwork dynamics. All the good stuff that goes a long way towards enhancing one’s wellbeing, self-confidence, and career prospects!
Such benefits aren’t limited to the Paddle Team or our outdoor activities either. Whether our volunteers are on the water making waves, on the ground leading local Unit activities, or parked in front of a computer creating recruitment resources for their local Units, volunteering with Girl Guides Victoria provides ample and diverse opportunities for growth, personal and professional development, and leadership.
