What is the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award?
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a leading non-formal education youth development program, empowering young Australians aged 14-24 to explore their full potential and find their purpose, passion and place in the world.
Girl Guides Victoria is proud to deliver the Award to youth members aged 14+ and Olave and adult members aged 18-25. The Award will challenge you to extend your abilities by regularly participating in a Skill, Physical Recreation and Voluntary Service activity, as well as taking part in an Adventurous Journey.
There are three levels of the Award available, each one progressively more challenging.
How do I complete my Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award?
Girl Guides Victoria members complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award through the State Girl Guides Victoria Award Centre. Unlike many other Girl Guide badges and awards, you will not be assessed by your normal Leader and peer group for your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (however we encourage you to share your progress with your unit)! One of our trained Girl Guide Duke of Edinburgh Award Leaders will support you through your Award journey.
It is still a good idea to talk to your Unit Leader prior to starting the Award, as this may provide an opportunity to discuss cross-crediting and other opportunities.
The cost for each level of the Award is as follows:
- Bronze Award: $140
- Silver Award: $150
- Gold Award: $170
Funding support is available through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia to members who may require assistance with Award fees and costs.
