What if an empty can, bottle or carton could help open the door to Guiding for another girl?
Girl Guides Victoria is excited to launch Turn 10 Cents into Future Leaders, our new six-month partnership with Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme’s West Zone network operator TOMRA Cleanaway. The campaign brings together two things that sit naturally within Guiding: taking practical action for our environment and doing something positive for our communities.
For more than 115 years, Girl Guides Victoria has empowered girls and young women to lead, learn and make a positive difference in their communities. Now, thanks to an exciting new partnership with the CDS Vic West Zone Victorians can help support the next generation of leaders with every eligible can and bottle they return.
How You Can Support Girls Through Recycling
For the next six months, Girl Guides Victoria will be a major donation partner across the CDS Vic West zone. When returning eligible drink containers through a CDS Vic West Zone refund point, anyone can donate their refunds to Girl Guides Victoria via the CDS Vic West app. Victorian’s can also choose to donate their 10-cent refund directly on-screen at any Reverse Vending Machine in the CDS Vic West Zone.
And if you are outside the CDS Vic West zone, you can still choose Girl Guides Victoria when donating your container refunds through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme via the relevant zone operator app.
Turning Containers into Opportunities
Funds raised through the campaign will support the Blackburn Bursary Fund, helping girls experiencing financial barriers to take part in Guiding. It is a simple way to turn everyday recycling into opportunities for girls to build resilience, find their voice and realise their potential.
Every eligible container return can spark a future:
- 800 containers can help provide a basic uniform and sash
- 1,250 containers can help fund a weekend camp experience
- 2,500 containers can support a full term of weekly Guiding
- 3,500 containers can help a girl attend a life-changing Guiding event
Launching the Partnership
We officially celebrated the launch of the partnership this week, bringing Guides, families and campaign partners together to kick things off and start turning containers into opportunities for girls
And this is only the beginning.
Over the coming months, Guides will be able to get involved through the 10c Challenge, with Unit participation, campaign milestones and our collective impact tracked along the way. There will also be a dedicated badge for this campaign and activities to help Guides explore recycling, sustainability, service and community action
So, start saving those eligible cans, cartons and bottles. Support Girl Guides with your container refund and help girls build resilience, find their voice and realise their potential.
Small contributions can create big change. Together, we can turn everyday action into everyday impact for girls, for communities and for the future. To learn more about Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, visit the CDS Vic website.
