Surf Coast Guides Celebrate One Year of Outdoor Adventures at Tallawalla

Surf Coast Guides Celebrating One Year of Outdoor Adventure!

Surf Coast Guides are almost one year old, and in one year, we have had so much fun! When planning the unit last year, we decided we could manage meeting once a month and wanted to meet outdoors. Tallawalla Campsite offered the perfect location. Tallawalla Campsite is in Moggs Creek, a tiny village between Anglesea and Lorne on the Great Ocean Road. We don’t have a hall, only a shelter and NO electricity!

Surf Coast Guides meet once a month on a Saturday afternoon (for three hours), and we pack a lot into our time at Guides. We also meet in the holidays for a day holiday program. The best thing about meeting at Tallawalla is that we are in the bush for every meeting! We also have the beach nearby, so we are able to enjoy the great outdoors in the bush and on the beach.

We follow the Australian Guide Program, but all activities, skills and games are enjoyed in the fresh air. Rain doesn’t deter us as we have two large shelters to scurry to if it decides to pour. Our open fire lets us cook, warm and dry off. Some of the activities we have enjoyed this year include getting to know our local CFA and squirting the hose; a hike to the beach; nature activities with the local Field Naturalists; cooking damper; making shelters; a wide game with the rest of our district; a sleepover in town; a pet day; campfires; planning in our ‘yarning circle’; creating and making; compass activities and first aid.

We have had no trouble attracting six wonderful adults to help with the program, holiday program and sleepover. Having a large team, meeting once a month and such an enthusiastic unit of Guides, makes Guides such a pleasure and easy for the team.

Next year will be our first outdoor camp. Where? In the Instatents at Tallawalla!
