Our Story: How Victorian Girl Guides Embraced World Thinking Day 2025

On Saturday, 22 February, we celebrated World Thinking Day—a day of international friendship, reflection, and action observed by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide since 1926.

As members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), Victorian Guides are part of a powerful global community spanning 153 countries and 8.8 million members. Each year, World Thinking Day is an opportunity to connect with this international sisterhood and explore themes that inspire positive change.

Guides and Leaders across Victoria celebrated WTD in many exciting and meaningful ways, with many Units, Districts and Regions embracing the 2025 theme Our Story through adventure, reflection and shared experiences.

From exploring Bendigo’s historic landmarks at our state celebration to environmental activities in Mildura and regional gatherings across the state, this year’s celebrations were all about connection, discovery, and the powerful stories that have shaped the Guiding Movement.

In Gippsland, Guides came together at Burnet Park, strengthening friendships and sharing their unique Guiding journeys.

Meanwhile, Guides in North Melbourne took part in creative activities from the WAGGGS World Thinking Day Activity Pack, connecting with this year’s theme in fun and engaging ways.

At our state event in Bendigo, Guides and Leaders explored the city’s rich history by riding vintage trams, panning for gold, and taking on team challenges in a Wide Game. They also found inspiration in the serene Yi Yuan Classical Chinese Gardens, reflecting on the stories and traditions that have shaped the community.

In Mildura, five local Units gathered for a day of environmental activities planned by 14-year-old Guide Eliza, as part of her Queen’s Guide Award. With support from her Unit Leader, Eliza organised the event and worked with Leaders on the day to ensure it smoothly.

Participants enjoyed a visit from a wildlife rescue expert and three adorable joeys, painting friendship rocks, learning about sustainability, and exploring the history of Guiding in their region. The day ended with a swim and a meaningful reflection on how Guiding has influenced their lives.
